It feels good to finally finish one of my quilt projects that was on my to-do list since the dawn of time (it felt like it). But wait, it gets better. How cool is this? I took my finished quilt top to get it quilted by a long-arm quilter who happens to own a quilt shop (pant...pant...I'm trying to see how many times I can use the word quilt in a sentence), asked if she could display my quilt in her quilt shop once she's done quilting my quilt. WHEW! I calmly said sure but inside, I was doing somersaults across the room and screaming, "HELL YEAH!!!"
The quilt pattern is called "Elizabeth's String" from a book called "Mostly Traditional Antique Quilts Made Easy" by Calico Printworks. BTW, this was a class I took last year from another quilt shop. It was the owner of the shop who taught the class (girl, i know you're reading this). It was a fun class, good food and wonderful friends.
Once in a while (yes, once in a great while), I look at a pattern and think how can I put my own stamp on it. I didn't want my quilt to look exactly like the pattern. In class, I only have 1-1/2" strips of 30's reproduction fabrics and didn't feel like buying more that day (something was definitely wrong with me). I didn't want it to be just 30's fabric, I wanted something else, something different. I decided to use a solid red in the middle. The red definitely stood out and it look like a lattice or a trellis. Remember I didn't mention anything about drawing lines on the foundation fabric. Some of the red strips didn't exactly meet at the corners. So appliqueing the flowers and leaves covered my boo-boo's! It was a pain to machine applique those flowers to a finished quilt top bigger than a crib size quilt. But once it was done, those flowers made the quilt look even better. A
t least, I think so.
Here's a picture of My quilt at the shop. MY SCRAPPY GARDEN TRELLIS QUILT! I wish you can see me beaming from ear to ear! Cheesy and dorky but proud!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that quilt!!!!! What beautiful work! Thanks so much for sharing!

I'm totally dying over this. I was writing an email to you about how I was dying over it and had a question so I came here to link to the photo and there it is as big as life. LOVE IT. I have one that I made this method, but with wonky strips, no read and its not half a cute, although I love it as well. I totally love your fabric selection and then the flowers make it sensational. I totally want to print a photo and put it on my inspiration wall. And love the red binding, I can't stop talking about how much I love this quilt. I'll have to try and photo mine so you can see how much better yours is.

Welcome to the world of the very addictive hobby of blogging! I feel very privileged to have found you at the beginning of your writings and look forward to checking back and seeing what else you show us. I've only been blogging since November and it's great to put something out there and then get the feedback from others...it's like having your own in-house quilting group.
BTW I love the quilt you've shown here. I've always wanted to make a 30's quilt and haven't quite gotten round to it...perhaps I shouldn't procrastinate anymore; the results are stunning.
