Show and Tell

Hello there!!

I haven't done anything crafty lately so i'll just show you one of my quilts you haven't seen before. This is a quilt I made seven years ago. Ooops, make that 6 years ago (see note below). My first paper-foundation quilt and the second quilt I ever made. Ok, maybe the third quilt if I count the quilt I made in beginner's quilting class. I was such a newbie I wasn't afraid to try anything. I used Aunt Grace Thru the Year fabric collection, my very first 30's repro (love it!), Little Foot paper foundation, heavy cotton chenille for backing and no batting. Donna did such a beautiful job quilting this for me. The Binding Queen couldn't stop talking how easy it was to bind it. hehehe! She thoroughly enjoyed binding it for me... NOT! She said the chenille was soo thick she had a hard time sewing the binding on and broke all her fingers in the process. Ok, the last part wasn't true. She threatened to charge me double even triple the next time I give her a quilt with heavy backing. Grrrrrr!

Update: Ooopsy! I knew something was wrong when I read Dawn's comment. I've been quilting for six years not seven. Just to be sure, I had to find the first quilting magazine I ever bought. It was AP&Q Quilt Sampler 2002. That same year, they released a special issue called Century of Quilts. Aaaah, I feel much better now. LOL!

Have a wonderful weekend. Toodles!

Ta-done!!!

Nothing but work, work, work lately. Somehow I managed to finish a quilt.

Dsc06239 Dsc06242
I used Barefoot Roses pink polka dot fabric, 2 Simplicity charm packs, not sure if I used 1 yard for the inner border and few fat quarters for the outer border. I found the pattern called Ocean Waves Variation over here. The blocks are made out of half triangle squares so I didn't have to worry about using the pattern's measurements.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

Well, after a month of drooling over fabrics on blogland and online stores I couldn't take it anymore! Yes, I've been cheating on my diet...I consider this a MAJOR setback. Bad, bad Doe!

Silence...

I guess, this is not a surprise. Me thinks everyone is guilty of this crime. Am I right? LOL!

It started with this one. So pretty! BTW, I stole the picture on the right from the CK website.

Dsc05648_5 226660a_3

Then, I bought backing for my ME quilt and another quilt that I'm currently working on. And, extra fabrics to do a border. I will tell you about it later.

Dsc05650 Dsc057571_2

Then, I have to have this new Mary Engelbreit Christmas fabrics (by MODA). I think Wren likes it, too. I love, love, love it! I got it at the shop. Cheryl has more pictures of the new ME fabrics on her blog.

I thought by showing you pictures of my new girl, Sophie you won't wanna hurt me. Please, forgive this very, very, VERY weak, no self control lil' one. Please?!

One less WIP

Look and Learn jelly roll pinwheel quilt is DONE. Whew!!

Dsc04951 Dsc04952

Thank goodness, I only have a gazillion and one more WIPs to finish! What about you? How many WIPs do you have on your list?

WIP of the moment

Well, well, well... Look who's been busy!

I've been working on this project using the new Mary Engelbreit fabrics as well as her old ones.  I used Monica's (who is soooo uber-nice for sharing) Jingle Jolly Runner pattern but I added/cut more pieces than what the pattern asked for. I'm making a quilt. It has a total of 1, 229 pieces to be exact!! The 792 one and a half inch square, itty-bitty star points were killing me! Why would I go thru all that trouble? Just call me CRAZY! Check out what I've done so far and let me know what you think.

I really like this old ME fabric. Cute print!

Dsc051831_2 Dsc051981

Of course, this quilt wouldn't be complete without Mary's ch-, um... signature cherries! (chuckling)

Dsc051861 Dsc052031

I got this cute ceramic chair pincushion a long, long, LONG time ago when ME had her store in Fashion Island, Newport Beach. Stinken' cute, isn't it.

Weekend WIP

Such lovely weather we're having here in SoCal this weekend! Yep, it's raining again! I guess I'm staying at home to work on a few WIPs.

Dsc04223 Dsc04224

Here is one of the WIPs I'm working on right now. I'm putting together different pink fabrics to make a scrappy backing for one of my finished quilt tops. I thought using some of my stash is a brilliant idea...well, I really, REALLY need the space. As of today...wait, maybe I should say after this weekend, I'm going on a fabric diet. OK ladies, I'm going shopping online before I start my diet. LOL!!! Wish me luck!

Dsc05025 Dsc05031

I hope you're enjoying your weekend wherever you are and whatever the weather might be. Toodles!

All is well!

After being mauled by my little fuzzy wuzzy, she's finally back to her normal disposition trying her darnest to ignore me. Of course, I won't let her!

Dsc04871 Dsc04872

Dsc048771 Dsc048781

Moving on to Sweet Bea, my first amigurumi. Hopefully, she won't be my last. She/it started as a guy but I decided to put a skirt on him/her/it. Does that make him/her a drag queen? hehehe! I think I'm the one who's confused.

Dsc04700 Dsc047021 Baby got back!

Are you sure I look like Princess Leia...Oh my gawd, my eye!!! Ahhhh! Where is my other ear? What is that stringy thing around my head? A tape worm? Take it off!! Ahhhh!!!

Dsc04701 Dsc04705_2

Next time I will use a smaller hook to make the stitches tighter. All right, all right no need to say it out loud! I DO need to practice some more.

Dsc04732 Dsc04735

Here I am all done and playing with my best pal, Scottie (I collected Beanie babies, too) looking good with Lori's Pretty Little Things flower ponytails around his neck. Cute, isn't he?

Moving on to something that makes me giddy like a little girl waiting for spring to arrive. I'm loving this SWELL fabric collection from MODA. I bought charm packs last year and couldn't wait to make my super-duper easy pattern that I got as a freebie from the quilt shop. Thanks, Donna! I decided to make it bigger without an inner and outer border. Love it!

Dsc04670_4 Just SWELL, isn't it!!!!

And lastly, I received a package from Sharon containing a heart pillow and a Jennifer Murphy reproduction. Emma, who has a fetish for packing materials played with the red tissue paper. I think she was more excited than I am! Thank you very much, Sharon.

Before I forget, Miss Polka Dot is feeling much, much, MUCH better now. Darn that nasty flu that is going around. Make sure you don't pass it on to me, ok. Toodles everyone! Take care and stay healthy.

Just checking in...

I've been getting e-mails from you dearest bloggy friends wondering if I'm still alive and why the heck I haven't posted anything! Ooopsy, so sorry to keep you hanging like that. I didn't mean to get you all worried about me. I should have told you I'm taking a blog break because of my day job. Anyhoo, I have a little bit of time to post so here it is.

First, I know this is waaayyy too late but I want to wish everyone a prosperous NEW YEAR!! Howzit so far? Moi? Well, don't hate me because I was lucky enough to win this wonderful bag over at Beata's last month's giveaway. Bwahahahaha!!! Just look at it! She even embellished the tissue paper with felted flowers! Gorgeous, isn't it. Thank you very much, Beata. I love it!

You should check out her blog. She's AMAZING!!! You are going to need a drool bucket. I mean it! Did you see her babushka dolls? Crocheted projects here, here (including a tutorial), and I LOOOVE what she did with plain T-shirts here. What about her wooly projects here? Oh for crying out loud, just go have a look! You will not be disappointed. Tons of eye candy! I can't wait for her Etsy shop to open. Soon I hope. Real soon. Maybe she'll sell more of her cupcake bags so you can have your very own.

Next, I've been working on this Look and Learn pinwheel quilt since December. I went to the Monday night class at the quilt shop hoping to finish it but of course that didn't happen. Everytime I go there I hardly get anything done. I end up yakking up a storm, eating too much, laughing a lot and shopping for more fabrics! It was a good break for me though. It was great to see Cheryl and the ladies. I'm hoping to attend more often but we'll see.

Totally missed Road to California quilt show. Thank goodness Sharon, Cheryl and Donna promised to take tons of pictures to share! So where are they, ladies?

By the way, did anyone know about Cath Kidston Home? Cath's US online shop that carries her past bed and bath collections at a discount. How come no one told me about this sooner? Are you keeping it to yourself because of the great discounts to be had? Ok, I'm with you on that one because that is something I would do. I know what you're thinking. Selfish little...!!!! Totally and I don't feel guilty at all. All right, calm down. I'm sharing this bit of good news so don't give me that look! Anyway, I bought these lovely embroidered pillowcases with matching duvet cover at 50% off or was it 75% off the retail price. Love it!

Dsc04668 Dsc04671

More than 50 PERCENT OFF on Cath Kidston bed and bath!!!! I'm serious! Do you see the pictures below? Just go over there. I know you want to! Go, go, go!!!!

Toodles!

Quilts, quilts, and more quilts!

Here are some quilts from Houston. Sorry for the blur. I didn't get a chance to take pictures of all the amazing quilts including the award-winning quilts because it was so crowded and you know me being so short, I can't see over people's knee caps! There were beautiful antique quilts and artsy-fartsy quilts that were off limits to camera. Bummer! Anyhoo, ENJOY!

GI-NOURMOUS quilts!!!!

Dsc04018_2

Remembering those who died in Iraq...

Dsc04024 Dsc04023

Angel of Peace made out of 11, 400  3/4-inch pictures! I'd say, that's a lot of work!

Dsc04040 Dsc04041

Quilts from Japan. I think I've seen the quilt on the left in QuiltMania. Looks familiar, doesn't it.

Dsc04032 Dsc04036

Strippin' in the Garden! and A decade of doing my Block.

Dsc04025 Dsc04030

Everlasting Wreath...of Love. I love this quilt. Do you think I can make this? I doubt it!

Dsc04043 Dsc04047_2

Pat Reaches Quilter's Nirvana! "When a quilter reaches nirvana, her quilts all win ribbons. She does not care about calories, housework, and cooking. Fabric grows on trees, needles never need changing, and bobbins are always full. In quilter's nirvana, Pat has more than two arms, making it easier for her to get more things done." Funny!!!

Dsc04058 Dsc04060

State Fair Hot Dogs! I thought of Nan when I saw this quilt.

Dsc04068 Dsc04074

Lovely Tenth Anniversary Rose. It took the quilter 10 years to finish this quilt.

Dsc04085 Dsc04084

Wild Cat and Wooded Houses. These are small quilts.

I just remembered, it was in the scary part of town!! Thanks for switching chairs with me coz you know I won't be able to lift the exit door. What else? Oh, and for licking the peanut butter off of the Milton crackers. LOL!!!

Yummy-licious!

Dsc038241 What's new? I'll be taking a class this Saturday. Sharon will be teaching Jelly braids quilt at Donna's shop. I think I'll be using my Moda's Christmas Past jelly rolls. Not sure yet. Anyhoo, she said this pattern is super easy and super fun! I'm supposed to be cutting my jelly rolls tonight instead I was busy doing something else.

Dsc038492 A few days ago, Monica sent me some Amish Friendship Bread starter. TODAY is Day 10!!! Woo-hoo! You know what I'm talking about, right?  Day 10...BAKING DAY!!!! Me and my friend Henny got busy baking this evening. I added dried cranberries and pineapple chunks and it came out de-lish! Thanks, Monica!

Dsc038181 Dsc03847

I was enjoying a big fat slice of this yummy bread while sorting my mail. I ordered these from Honeysuckle Cottage. A Christmas Story by Anni Downs. It has some cute holiday projects which I will start next Christmas. I'm not kidding! lol! The Homespun Vol 8.9 has fun projects like this Fab Fishy by Melly & Me. Lots of eye candy!
