What's new? I'll be taking a class this Saturday. Sharon will be teaching Jelly braids quilt at Donna's shop. I think I'll be using my Moda's Christmas Past jelly rolls. Not sure yet. Anyhoo, she said this pattern is super easy and super fun! I'm supposed to be cutting my jelly rolls tonight instead I was busy doing something else.
A few days ago, Monica sent me some Amish Friendship Bread starter. TODAY is Day 10!!! Woo-hoo! You know what I'm talking about, right? Day 10...BAKING DAY!!!! Me and my friend Henny got busy baking this evening. I added dried cranberries and pineapple chunks and it came out de-lish! Thanks, Monica!
I was enjoying a big fat slice of this yummy bread while sorting my mail. I ordered these from Honeysuckle Cottage. A Christmas Story by Anni Downs. It has some cute holiday projects which I will start next Christmas. I'm not kidding! lol! The Homespun Vol 8.9 has fun projects like this Fab Fishy by Melly & Me. Lots of eye candy!
Well, I thought I'd show you Emma enjoying her bubble wraps while I take another slice of that bread. Toodles!
I'm loving SoCal's fall weather right now! Just like my friend, Dashel. He's a needle felted bunny rabbit from Jenn Docherty. Isn't he adorable? Anyhoo, back to the weather report. Lately, it's been a tad bit nippy at night and early morning then the temperature reaches up to mid 70's by noon. So I ask you, where's the brrrr? It is supposed to be jacket season but I'm not really ready for that because it means Christmas is not far away. People, it's practically here! Most shops have their christmas decorations up all ready. Can you believe it?!
Another friendly swap
Speaking of christmas, I signed up for another holiday swap over at Monica's . The other Monica! I just hope I won't be late again!
One less wip!
Yes, another 5" charm square quilt. I can't seem to stop buying those dang charm packs! I got the "jolly packs" from Fat Quarter Shop. The fabric line is called Barefoot Roses by Grand Revival Design for Free Spirit Fabrics. In case you're wondering, the inner border is not from the same line. It's one of the fabrics from 3 Sisters "Gingham Rose" collection for Moda. I LOVE this quilt! The prints are girly but not too frou-frou!
All right! I have to go work on something else like a new blog banner in time for Halloween or come up with something handmade for the 2 swaps I signed up for. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Toodles!
What to do with those charm packs? Make another quilt, of course! I used my Darlene Zimmerman's Little Darlings five-inch square "jolly packs" that I bought from FatQuarterShop.com.
We are going to make an hourglass block using five-inch squares. You can actually make this block using whatever size square you like. Easy-piecey block to make. I'm assuming you have basic quilting skills. Ready? Here we go...
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the background square. Place marked square on charm square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of the marked line, cut on drawn line and press open. This will yield 2 half-triangle squares.
Take one of the half-traingle squares and draw a diagonal line on the wrong side. Match the other half-triangle with the printed fabric opposite of each other (see photo on the left). Sew 1/4" seam on each side of the marked line, cut on the drawn line and press. Square up your blocks and....Voila! You should have two hourglass blocks. Ok, mine are sideways but you get the picture.
Now, to the fun part. Putting all your blocks together! You can even make a two-color quilt using this block.
You probably read Sharon's and Cheryl's tall tale of the "pyjama party". Do you think both ladies were telling the truth? Well... all I'm saying is that IT WAS CRAZY! We laughed, ate, and drank a lot! We stayed up all night laughing! The "entertainment" was hilarious! I was surprised we actually had time to sew. Of course, we did! I was itching to sew. So, I woke everybody up at five Saturday morning to start sewing. Sure they were complaining but it was a very productive day. More laughing, eating, drinking and a little sewing. We had so much FUN!
I told you the "entertainment" was really funny. I didn't get a chance to take pictures of Tipsy Sharon singing and dancing because we were busy laughing at her! Poor Maddie couldn't get away! Thanks for having us, Sharon!
